摘要：A system and method may compress a digital image. A storage unit may store adictionary having a plurality of predetermined template patterns each identified by acode. A decomposition module may divide the image into a plurality of sub-regions. Acompression module may select a template pattern from the dictionary that mostclosely matches an image features for each sub-region. The compression module maygenerate a compressed data set for the image in which each sub-region is represented bya code identifying the template pattern selected therefore. Once the data is compressed,a decompression unit may reconstruct the image. The decompression unit may use thecode from the compressed data set to retrieve the template pattern from the dictionaryfor each sub-region and may reconstruct a full image by combining the templatepatterns for all of the sub-regions. An output device may display the reconstructedimage.
