My Awesome Day
Hey there! My name is Michael and I'm 9 years old. I go to Oak Grove Elementary School and I'm in 4th grade. Today was a pretty awesome day, so I thought I'd tell you all about it!
It started off at 7am when my mom came into my bedroom to wake me up. I'm definitely not a morning person, so it took her a few tries before I finally opened my eyes and got out of bed. I got dressed, brushed my teeth, and headed to the kitchen for breakfast.
My favorite thing for breakfast is waffles with lots of syrup and strawberries. My mom makes the best waffles ever! After filling my belly, I grabbed my backpack and lunchbox and waited for the school bus.
The bus arrived at 8:15am to take me to school. I love riding the bus because I get to sit with my best friend Jacob. We always play rock-paper-scissors and tell jokes to each other on the way. Jacob told a really funny one about a chicken crossing the road today that had me cracking up!
We got to school at 8:30am and headed straight to our classroom. Our teacher Mrs. Thompson is so nice and fun. She
always has a big smile on her face in the mornings when we arrive. The first thing we did was take out our reading books and practice for 30 minutes. Reading is one of my favorite subjects! After reading time, we had a math lesson all about fractions. I have to admit, fractions aren't my favorite thing in the world. They can be kind of tricky and confusing sometimes. But Mrs. Thompson is a great teacher and really helps us understand the concepts.
At 10am, we got to go outside for recess! Woohoo! That's definitely the best part of the school day. I spent most of recess time playing kickball with Jacob and some other friends. We got pretty competitive and my team ended up winning, which was awesome.
When we came back inside, we had a science lesson all about the life cycle of butterflies. Science is probably my favorite subject after reading. I thought it was so cool learning about how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. We even got to color pictures of the different stages. My coloring skills are on point!
Finally, it was time for lunch at 11:30am. I was starving! My mom had packed me a turkey and cheese sandwich, some baby carrots, an apple, and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The
cookie was definitely my favorite part. I wonder if mom would pack two next time?
After lunch, we had a pretty chill afternoon. We had an art lesson where we got to draw self-portraits. I drew myself with spiky hair, a huge smile, and giving a thumbs up. I think it came out looking great!
We also had some time for free reading, which is the best. I'm reading this awesome book series right now called \"Dragon Slayers\" about these kids who have to fight evil dragons. It's so action-packed and exciting!
At 3pm, the final bell rang and it was time to go home. Yahoo! I met my mom in the pickup line and she had a surprise for me - she brought me an ice cream cone from my favorite parlor in town. What a cool mom!
When we got home, I did my homework which was just a couple of math worksheets. I actually kind of enjoyed the math this time since I'm getting better at fractions. After homework, I spent a couple of hours outside playing catch and climbing trees with Jacob from next door.
We came inside once it started getting dark and had dinner. My dad cooked up some delicious spaghetti and meatballs, another one of my favorites. My parents are such good cooks! Finally, we watched a movie together as a family before it was my bedtime at 9pm. We watched an old classic comedy called Home Alone and I could not stop laughing at all the silly stunts and pranks in it. What a hilarious movie!
As I was getting ready for bed and brushing my teeth, I thought about what an excellent day it had been. Great friends, fun lessons at school, play time outside, awesome food, and quality family time. Not every day is as awesome as this one, but I felt so happy and grateful for it all.
I snuggled up in my warm, cozy bed as my mom gave me a hug and kiss goodnight. As my eyes closed and I started drifting off to sleep, I knew that more awesome days were just around the corner. A kid couldn't ask for anything more!
