13.1Finishedtubesshallbereasonablystraightandhavesmoothendsfreeofburrs.Theyshallhaveaworkmanlikefinish.Surfaceimperfections(seeNote1)mayberemovedbygrinding,providedthatasmoothcurvedsurfaceismaintained,andthewallthicknessisnotdecreasedtolessthanthatpermittedbythisortheproductspecification.Theoutsidediameteratthepointofgrindingmaybereducedbytheamountsoremoved.

15.Retests

15.1Iftheresultsofthemechanicaltestsofanygrouporlotdonotconformtotherequirementsspecifiedintheindividualspecification,retestsmaybemadeonadditionaltubesofdoubletheoriginalnumberfromthesamegrouporlot,eachofwhichshallconformtotherequirementsspecified.16.Retreatment

16.1Iftheindividualtubesorthetubesselectedtorepresentanygrouporlotfailtoconformtothetestrequirements,theindividualtubesorthegrouporlotrepresentedmayberetreatedandresubmittedfortest.Notmorethantworeheattreatmentsshallbepermitted.17.TestSpecimens

17.1Testspecimensshallbetakenfromtheendsoffinishedtubespriortoupsetting,swaging,expanding,orotherformingoperations,orbeingcuttolength.Theyshallbesmoothontheendsandfreeofburrsandflaws.

17.2Ifanytestspecimenshowsflawsordefectivemachining,itmaybediscardedandanotherspecimensubsti-tuted.

18.MethodofMechanicalTesting

18.1ThespecimensandmechanicaltestsrequiredshallbemadeinaccordancewithAnnexA2ofTestMethodsandDefinitionsA370ifinch-poundunitsarespecifiedortotherequirementsdescribedintheapplicabletrackofTestMethodsA1058ifSIunitsarespecified.

18.2Specimensshallbetestedatroomtemperature.18.3SmallorsubsizespecimensasdescribedinTestMethodsandDefinitionsA370orTestMethodsA1058maybeusedonlywhenthereisinsufficientmaterialtoprepareoneofthestandardspecimens.Whenusingsmallorsubsizespecimens,thelargestonepossibleshallbeused.19.FlatteningTest

19.1Asectionoftubenotlessthan21⁄2in.[63mm]inlengthforseamlessandnotlessthan4in.[100mm]inlengthforweldedshallbeflattenedcoldbetweenparallelplatesintwosteps.Forweldedtubes,theweldshallbeplaced90°fromthedirectionoftheappliedforce(atapointofmaximumbending).Duringthefirststep,whichisatestforductility,nocracksorbreaks,exceptasprovidedforin19.4,ontheinside,outside,orendsurfacesshalloccurinseamlesstubes,orontheinsideoroutsidesurfacesofweldedtubes,untilthedistancebetweentheplatesislessthanthevalueofHcalculatedbythefollowingequation:

14.RepairbyWelding

14.1Repairweldingofbasemetaldefectsintubingispermissibleonlywiththeapprovalofthepurchaserandwiththefurtherunderstandingthatthetubeshallbemarked“WR”andthecompositionofthedepositedfillermetalshallbesuitableforthecompositionbeingwelded.Defectsshallbethoroughlychippedorgroundoutbeforeweldingandeachrepairedlengthshallbereheattreatedorstressrelievedasrequiredbytheapplicablespecification.Eachlengthofre-pairedtubeshallbetestedhydrostaticallyasrequiredbytheproductspecification.

14.2RepairweldingshallbeperformedusingproceduresandweldersorweldingoperatorsthathavebeenqualifiedinaccordancewithASMEBoilerandPressureVesselCode,SectionIX.

Duringthesecondstep,whichisatestforsoundness,theflatteningshallbecontinueduntilthespecimenbreaksortheoppositewallsofthetubemeet.Evidenceoflaminatedorunsoundmaterial,orofincompleteweldthatisrevealedduringtheentireflatteningtestshallbecauseforrejection.19.2Surfaceimperfectionsinthetestspecimensbeforeflattening,butrevealedduringthefirststepoftheflatteningtest,shallbejudgedinaccordancewiththefinishrequirements.19.3Superficialrupturesresultingfromsurfaceimperfec-tionsshallnotbecauseforrejection.

19.4WhenlowD-to-tratiotubularproductsaretested,becausethestrainimposedduetogeometryisunreasonablyhighontheinsidesurfaceatthesixandtwelveo’clocklocations,cracksattheselocationsshallnotbecauseforrejectioniftheDtotratioislessthan10.20.ReverseFlatteningTest

20.1A5in.[100mm]inlengthoffinishedweldedtubinginsizesdowntoandincluding1⁄2in.[12.7mm]inoutsidediametershallbesplitlongitudinally90°oneachsideoftheweldandthesampleopenedandflattenedwiththeweldatthepointofmaximumbend.Thereshallbenoevidenceofcracksorlackofpenetrationoroverlapsresultingfromflashremovalintheweld.21.FlaringTest
