A. Sad C. Humorous

B. Angry D. Informative B

As is true in all cultures, Americans first hear music in the context of family life. Much of that music comes from the records on the family radio or tevevision, and this “canned” music is especially important in developing children’s musical taste. People often say they were very strongly influenced by the kind of music they heard before they were old enough to have their own records or choose the station on the family radio. There is usually some live music in the family as well.

Many mothers and grandmothers sing lullabies (摇篮曲), for example. These can be important since in America, as elsewhere, lullabies no only lull a baby to sleep but promise, praise and teach cultural values. Sometiems lullabies are the only songs in a foreign language that American children with strong ethnic backgrounds hear, since people often fall back on old, familiar languages for intimate (亲密的) songs.

Another important family context is the automobile, where families learn songs and sing together on weekends and vacations. This is not as surprising as it appears, for the family car has become one of the basic centers of family experience, and it is one of the important places where the family gather for an extended period of time without outside disturbance. The family used to have to choose between making their own music in the car and being forced by the radio, but the invention of automobile cassette recorders and eight-track playback machines allow a family to have more control over what they hear when they drive. 35. “Canned” music in the first paragraph refers to _______. A. the music passed down from older generations B. recorded music instead of live music C. modern music young people can enjoy D. the music children hear in a car

36. The music children first hear is important in _______. A. shaping their likes and dislikes in music B. instruction how to learn language C. developing their mind

D. helping them know about cultural values

37. According to the text, lullabies are usually sung in _______. A. American English B. a modern language C. an African language

D. the parents’ native language

38. The invention of automobile cassette recorders allows a family to _______. A. spend a longer time on vacation in the car B. enjoy an easier way to choose music C. have more choices in the music the hear D. have another place to get together

One of the qualities that most people admire in others is the willingness to admit one’s mistakes. It is extremely hard sometimes to say a simple thing like “I was wrong about that,” and it is even harder to say, “I was wrong , and you were right about that.”

I had an experience recently with someone admitting to me that he had made a mistake fifteen years ago. He told me he had been the manager of a certain grocery store in the neighbourhood where I grew up, and he asked me if I remembered the egg cartons (容器). Then he related an incident and began to remember vaguely the incident he was describing.

I was about eight years old at the time, and I had gone into the store with my mother to do the weekly grocery shopping. On that particular day, I must have found my way to the dairy food department where the incident took place.

There must have been a special sale on eggs that day because there was an impressive display of eggs in dozen and half-dozen cartons. The cartons were stacked three or four feet high. I must have stopped in front of a display to admire the stacks. Just then a woman came by pushing her grocery cart and knocked off the stacks of cartons. For some reason, I decided it was up to me to put the display back together, so I want to work.

The manager heard the noise and came rushing over to see what had happened. When he appeared, I was on my knees inspecting some of the cartons to see if any of the eggs were broken, but to him it looked as though I was the culprit (犯人). He severely scolded me and wanted me to pay for any broken eggs. I protested my innocence and tried to explain, but it did no good. Even though I quickly forgot all about the incident, apparently the manager did not. 39.Who was to blame for knocking off the stacks of cartons? A. The author B. The manager C. A woman D. The author’s mother 40. Which of the following statements is not true?

A. It was the author who put the display back together B. The author was severely criticized by the manager. C. A woman carelessly knocked off the stacks of cartons D. The woman made an apology to the manager

41.Which of the following can serve as the best title for the passage? A. Its Harder to Admit One’s Mistake B. A case of mistaken identity C. I remember an incident D. I was once the culprit

42. The tone of the article expresses the author’s_______.

A. admiration for the manager’s willingness to admit mistakes B. anger to the manager for his wrong accusation

C. complaint against the woman who knocked off the stacks of cartons D. regret for the mistake the made in the store

Many people think that listening is a passive business. It is just the opposite. Listening well is an active exercise of our attention and hard work. It is because they do not realize this, or because they are not willing to do the work, that most people do not listen well.

Listening well also requires total concentration upon someone else. An essential part of listening well is the rule known as “bracketing”. Bracketing includes the temporary giving up or setting aside of your own prejudices and desires,to experience as far as possible someone else’s world from the inside, stepping into his or her shoes. Moreover, since listening well involves bracketing,it also involves a temporary acceptance of the other person. Sensing this acceptance,

the speaker will seem quite willing to open up the inner part of his or her mind to the listener. True communication is under way. The energy required for listening well is so great that it can be accomplished only by the will to extend oneself for mutual growth.

Most of the time we lack this energy. Even though we may feel in our business dealings or social relationships that we are listening well, what we are usually doing is listening selectively. Often we have a prepared list in mind and wonder, as we listen, how we can achieve certain desired results to get the conversation over as quickly as possible or redirected in ways more satisfactory to us. Many of us are far more interested in talking than in listening, or we simply refuse to listen to what we don’t want to hear.

It wasn’t until toward the end of my doctor career that I have found the knowledge that one is being truly listened to is frequently therapeutic (有疗效的).In about a quarter of the patients I saw, surprising improvement was shown during the first few months of the psychotherapy(心理疗法),before any of the roots of problems had been uncovered or explained. There are several reasons for this phenomenon, but chief among them,I believe, was the patient’s sense that he or she was being truly listened to,often for the first time in years, and for some, perhaps for the first time ever.

43.According to the author,in communication people tend to ______.

A.listen actively B.set aside their prejudices C.listen purposefully D.open up their inner mind 44.What is mainly discussed in Paragraph 2?

A.How to listen well. B.What to listen to. C.Benefits of listening. D.Problems in listening.

45.According to the author, the patients improved mainly because ______.

A.they were taken good care of B.they were willing to listen to others C.they were truly listened to D.they knew the roots of problems 46.What type of writing is the article likely to be?

A.Science fiction. C.A medical report. B.Popular science. D.A news report.

It was the first snow of winter – an exciting day for every child but not for most teachers. Up until now, I had been old enough to dress myself, but today I would need some help. Miss Finlayson, my kindergarten teacher, had been through first snow days many times, but I think she may still remember this one. I managed to get into my wool snow trousers. But I struggled with my jacket because it didn’t fit well. It was a hand-me-down from my brother, and it made me wonder why I had to wear his ugly clothes. At least my hat and scarf were mine, and they were quite pretty. Finally it was time to have Miss Finlayson help me with my boots.

In her calm, motherly voice she said, “By the end of winter, you will all be able to put on your own boots.” I didn’t realize at the time that this was more a statement of hope than of confidence.

I handed her my boots and stuck out my foot. Like most children, I expected grown-ups to do all the work. After much pushing, she managed to get the first one into place and then, with a sigh, worked the second one on too.

I announced, “They’re on the wrong feet.”

She struggled to get the boots off and went through the joyless task of putting them on again. “They’re my brother’s boots, you know,” I said. “I hate them!”

Somehow, from long years of practice, she managed to act as though I wasn’t an annoying little girl, She pushed and pushed, less gently this time. With a greater sigh, seeing the end of her struggle with me, she asked, “Now, where are your gloves?”

第一节: 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

阅读下面短文并回答问题,然后将答案写到答题卡相应的位置上(请注意每题词数要求)

Fishing is probably the world’s most popular sport. People spend many dollars each year on items like boats and four-wheel-drive vehicles. In addition, they spend money on fishing

equipment, bait, fuel and boat repairs. And you can see that fishing can be an expensive pastime. Fishing lovers believe that their hobby is worth it. Others say that fishing is spoiling the environment and that it is a cruel hobby.

Supporters of fishing say that it is a nice hobby. Firstly, of the millions of people who fish for fun, most only catch enough fish to feed their families. They catch fish that are found in large numbers, so there is little danger to the species.

Secondly, recreational fishermen contribute to the economy. They spend money on equipment and other items, and they also spend it in directly by paying taxes on their equipment and fuel. Those who travel to fishing spots pay for accommodation and airfares. This money keeps people in work and provides new jobs each year.

Thirdly, fishing is relaxing and fun so it lessens stress. Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, it is far better to go fishing. People who are relaxed are generally healthier and much nicer to be near—except for the smell of the bait!

Those who ____________ say that there are too many fish thoughtlessly taken from rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. This could lead to the dying out of some species. Modern cars and boats mean that people can fish in remote areas of the world, so no place is safe from greedy fishermen who take both males and females, leaving few fish to produce young.

Those against fishing also say that it is a blood sport, which means that an animal must die so that a human can have fun. Many of the fish caught for sport are not suitable for eating, so they are thrown away. Once hooked, fish have no chance of escape.

56.What is the main idea of the passage?(no more than 4 words)

Recently our English teacher organized a discussion about people playing games on mobile phones. Some games are becoming very popular, especially among middle school students. Some think they are interesting, helping them reduce stress and kill time. Moreover, through playing these games, they can learn something that can’t be found at school. In this way, they feel they are leading a comfortable life.

However, they shouldn’t get addicted to it since it takes up too much time. Besides, it can also distract their attention from their studies and the real world, which, in turn, leads to bad performance in study. Moreover, there is no denying that playing games will do much harm to our health, especially to our eyesight.

As far as I am concerned, we must tear ourselves from those phone games in no time. (此范文字数超了一点点,辩证借鉴)
