Last Weekend with My Family
Last weekend was so much fun! My mom, dad, little sister Emma, and I did all sorts of activities together as a family. We hadn't had a weekend that full of family time and adventures in quite a while, so it was really special.
It all started on Saturday morning bright and early. I woke up around 7am like I usually do, even though it was the weekend. I could smell something delicious coming from the kitchen. I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs in my pajamas. My dad was making his famous chocolate chip pancakes! Those are my absolute favorite.
\"Good morning, sleepyhead!\" my dad said with a big smile as I came into the kitchen. \"I thought I'd make an extra special breakfast to kick off our fun family weekend.\"
\"Yay!! You're the best, Dad!\" I gave him a huge hug as he flipped the pancakes on the griddle.
Soon, the whole family was gathered around the table devouring stack after stack of fluffy pancakes drowning in syrup. Emma had gotten a little carried away with the syrup, so her
whole face was a sticky mess by the end. We all just laughed and laughed.
After breakfast, we all got dressed and packed up a cooler and some sports supplies into the car. We were going to spend the whole day at Willow Park! Once we got there, the first thing we did was have a big game of frisbee. Emma isn't quite old enough to play properly yet, but she loved just chasing after the frisbee and giggling whenever she caught it.
Mom, Dad, and I had a more competitive game going. We were keeping score and everything! Dad was in the lead for a while with his rocket arm, but then I started to catch onto his tricks. By lunchtime, Mom and I were tied for first place. We've always been the most competitive ones in the family.
For lunch, we had a picnic under the big oak tree at the edge of the park. Dad had packed everyone's favorite sandwiches - turkey and cheese for Mom and me, PB&J for Emma, and a BLT for himself. We also had some fresh berries, baby carrots, juice boxes for us kids and iced tea for the adults. It was such a perfect summer picnic lunch.
After we ate, Dad set up the badminton net and we had a family tournament. This time the teams were Mom and Emma against Dad and me. The moms absolutely crushed us! I had no
idea Mom was so good at badminton. She was smashing the birdie all over the place. Poor Emma could barely keep up with her. We ended up getting our butts kicked, but it was still a blast. Once we were all tuckered out from running around, we just laid on the big blanket and looked up at the clouds for a while. Emma saw a cloud that looked like a bunny, Dad thought one looked like a rocket ship, and I saw a few that looked like big fluffy ice cream cones. Making pictures out of the clouds is one of my favorite things to do.
As evening started to roll around, we packed up our things and headed back home. We were all pretty exhausted from being outdoors all day, so we just ordered a pizza for dinner and watched a movie together as a family. The movie was one of those silly comedies that has jokes that go over little kids' heads, but adults find hilarious. Mom, Dad, and I were cracking up the entire time, while poor Emma just sat there looking confused. After the movie, it was time for Emma's bedtime. The rest of us stayed up a little later playing some board games. We played Clue, which Emma is too little for, but she liked being my assistant anyway. Dad ended up winning after correctly guessing that Miss Scarlet did it with the rope in the study.
Finally, it was time for me to go to bed too. I showered off and brushed my teeth, giving my mom and dad big hugs and kisses as I headed up to my room. \"Today was the best day ever!\" I told them. \"I'm so glad we got to spend the whole weekend together as a family.\"
\"Us too, sweetie,\" Mom smiled. \"Now get some rest so you'll have lots of energy for more fun tomorrow!\"
The next morning, I woke up and could smell bacon sizzling from the kitchen. \"Oooh, Dad's breakfast fry-up!\" I thought excitedly as I jumped out of bed. Another day full of quality family time awaited!
We started the morning by all piling onto the couch together to watch the morning cartoons, still in our pajamas. There's nothing cozier than being squished between my parents with a blanket over all of us. Emma was cracking up at all the silly cartoon antics, and even Mom and Dad were chuckling.
After cartoons, we had Dad's awesome fry-up breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, and toast. We needed hearty meals to fuel us for all the activities we had planned!
Our first stop was going to be the inflatable fun park not too far from our house. It's filled with huge bounce houses, obstacle
courses, slides, and more - a kid's dream! We had been there a few times before for friends' birthday parties, but never as just our family.
I was a little nervous at first because some of the bigger obstacle courses looked really tricky. But Dad encouraged me to give them a try, saying I was a strong kid who could do anything I set my mind to. So I went for it!
The first couple runs through the obstacles, I tripped over things and got tangled up. By the third time though, I was a pro! I was flying through the courses, doing crazy stunts on the trampolines, and sliding down the huge slides with my arms up in the air. Emma couldn't go on the biggest stuff yet, but she had an absolute blast just bouncing around in the toddler bounce house while Mom and Dad watched proudly.
After a few hours at the fun park, we were all feeling hot and sweaty, so we headed home for a quick break and lunch. Dad grilled up some hamburgers and hot dogs out on the patio while Mom made a fresh salad and we snacked on potato chips and lemonade.
Once we were re-energized from the lunch break, we headed over to my favorite place on Earth - the local pool and waterpark! I'm a total fish and could spend all day in the water.
The first place I went once we got in the gates was the biggest water slide. It's a monster that does a few loop-de-loops before shooting you out into the deep end of the pool. My dad is the only one brave enough to go on it with me, since Mom gets super dizzy from spinning around.
We went down it a bunch of times, screaming our heads off. Then we tried out some of the other slides and dove around in the wave pool for a while. Poor Emma had to stay in the little kiddie section, but she seemed perfectly content splashing and playing in the shallow area.
After the pool, we picked up some ice cream cones for dessert and went for a walk around the neighborhood park near our house. The ice cream was dripping all over my face and hands, but I didn't care - what kid does? We checked out all the ducks swimming in the pond and waved at the people having picnics in the grass.
As the sun started setting, we headed back home absolutely exhausted. We had just enough energy left for a simple dinner of spaghetti and meatballs that Mom whipped up, then it was back on the couch for another movie night. This time we watched one of those fun adventure movies that's equally entertaining for kids and adults.
I fell asleep on the couch snuggled up next to Dad before the movie even ended. He had to carry me up to my bed later that night. It had been such an action-packed, adventure-filled, quality family time kind of weekend. Even though I was
completely tuckered out, I felt so happy and loved being able to make so many awesome memories with my mom, dad, and little sis. Weekends like this are what I'll remember forever!
