Love makes a better life

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m really honored to talk with you here.

This time, I want to talk with you about mercy and love.

First of all, let’s take a look at this picture.

Here is it----The Starving of Sudan. It happened in 1993, Darfur, one of the poorest area in Afghanistan. Where war has just went away, and people are favored to enjoy the short-lived peace. Just at this time, Kevin Carter and his colleagues suddenly went into a bony girl bent on her knees with difficulty, and she even seemed to move forward slightly trying to seek for something. However, just less than 10 meters behind this bony girl was a vulture, with its deep eyes staring at her aggressively, waiting for this girl’s down and then it could enjoy a big meal.

Out of habit, Kevin Carter took his camera and photographed all of this loyally. Then, he drove away the vulture and lifted the girl up. Then all of a sudden, he burst out crying. He cried so badly that none of his colleagues was able to comfort him, because they were also shocked by all of this. Shocked and scared.

Then, for a long time, Kevin didn’t say a word.

Then, just four months after he got the Pulitzer, this famous photographer committed to suicide.

At his last moment in this cruel world, he left words as follows: \"I'm really, really sorry,\" he explained in a note left on the passenger seat beneath a knapsack. \"The pain of life overrides the joy to the point that joy does not exist.\"

I remember seeing this picture for the first time, it stopped my life albeit for the few minutes that tears ran from my eyes, I would like to call this image a favorite, but favorite being in the wrong world, this picture is a lesson, a lesson to us all in the world we live in.

I know this is hard for us to accept this. But it is true and it really happened. So real that no one can deny it. There are so many people struggling in the world. They are struggling against life, against fate. They don’t deserve it. Well, in fact, no one really deserves it. No one is born evil and especially for an innocent child. It is not his fault at all, so why is it that they have to undertake everything that does not belong to them at all?

We should take a deep thought. And also, we should think about ourselves. There are a lot of people struggling for their life, however, on the other hand, what about us? The guys who live in a peaceful world yet don’t know how blessed we are? The guys who live in the glory days yet still hardly satisfied with our life today?

As a college student, we should not only learn how to blame and how to complain to this world.

What is important is that we should always be merciful and always do things with love. Think of those who are of the same age with you but yet still struggling for meals and clothes, think of those who are alone and can only live in their own world, and think of those who are undertaking all of those that they do not deserve.

On the contrary, we are far away from war and starvation, we are surrounded by our beloved family and friends. we live a better place than them. Blessed are we that we are the apple of the god’s eye. Isn’t it ridiculous that we are still complaining this and that?

So, always be kind-hearted and always always remember that we have so many things to do, for ourselves, and for our brothers and sisters who are suffering in different places in the world. We can save them, we can do many great things to them. So, next time, when we meet those who need our help, please do not hesitate for a second to reach out your hands and treat them as our brothers and sisters. Because they don’t deserve it and because we are responsible for this.

At last, I want to end up my speech with the famous song: We are the world, we are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day so let’s start giving. There’s a choice we’re making, we’re saving our own lives. It’s true we’ll make a better day just you and me !

That’s all, thank you for listening!
