泰戈尔的代表作之一《飞鸟集》全文

泰戈尔出生于孟加拉。 但人们一致认为他是印度人。 泰老的著作最初都是用孟加拉文写的。 据说当年凡是讲孟加拉话的地方没有人不日日歌咏他的诗歌的。 然而他的诗是在他自己把它们译成英文之后才获得了世界性的赞扬。 他于 1913 年获得了诺贝尔文学奖。

泰戈尔的诗集用英文出版的大致有: Ga r d e n e r (园丁集) J i t an j a l i (吉檀枷利)C r e s c e n t Mo o n (新月 集) F r u it -g a t h e r i n g (采果集) S t r a y B i r d (飞鸟集) L o v er ‘s Gi f t a n d C r o s s i n g (爱者之赠与歧路) 。 而用孟加拉文写的则还有许多。 如: S a n d h v a S a n g i t ; S i s h n ; P r ob h a t S a n g i t ; Ka h i n i ; Ka n i k a ; . . . . . . 等等许多。 而英文诗只是选了其中的一小部而已。 例如《飞鸟集》 就大部来自Ka n ik a 。

泰戈尔的诗早在“五。 四”之前就零零星星地被译成中文。 最初是陈独秀的四首五言古体译文《赞歌》 选自《吉檀枷利》 。 之后是刘半农的白话译文四首选自《新月 集》 。 而第一部中文诗集则是西蒂译的《飞鸟集》 。 此后各种翻译, 介绍,和评述泰戈尔的作品不断出现, 尤其是在1 9 2 4 年泰戈尔访问中国前后。 自从《飞鸟集》 出版之后, 中国诗坛上一种表现随感的短诗就流行了起来。 如冰心作的《繁星》 , 《春水》 等。 其中许多带有哲理, 晶莹清丽的小诗赢得了不人的喜爱。碾转模仿的很多。 几乎影响了一代诗风。

据说, 泰戈尔的诗用孟加拉文来念具有很强的韵律感。 很可惜, 这在译文中是难以领悟到的了。 在各种译文中, 西蒂(郑振铎) 的译文流传较广。 也许他本人是很有功力的诗人, 也是散文作家。 所以他的译文清新细腻。 也许较接近原意。《飞鸟集》 包括了三百余首清丽的小诗。 这些诗的基本题材不外乎小草, 流萤, 落叶, 飞鸟, 山水, 河流。 记得初读这些小诗时就象在暴雨后初夏的早晨, 推开卧房的窗户, 看到一个淡泊清亮的晨。 平时孺弱的小溪无端的雄壮起来, 加快了前行的脚步, 哼唱着易显燎亮的歌; 阳光撒落在挂着水珠的树叶上, 那水珠显得特别的明亮, 这明亮把树叶衬托成一种透明的色彩; 平坦的草地象是吸足了油彩, 当心那跳跃着的小松鼠是否也会染上这亮绿的油彩; 天边有几朵白云在倘翔, 似乎在回味昨夜的狂欢; 一切都是那样地清新, 亮丽, 可是其中韵味却很厚实, 耐人寻味。

秋天的黄叶, 它们没有什么可唱, 只叹息一声, 飞落在那里。

Stray birds of summer come to my window to sing and flyaway.

And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutterand fall there with a sign.

世界上的一队小小的漂泊者呀, 请留下你们的足印在我的文字里。

O Troupe of little vagrants of the world, leave your footprints in my words.

The world puts off its mask of vastness to its lover.

It is the tears of the earth that keep here smiles in bloom.

无垠的沙漠热烈追求一叶绿草的爱, 她摇摇头笑着飞开了。

The mighty desert is burning for the love of a bladeofgrass who shakes her head and laughs and flies away.

If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars.
